METRO supports conference for families affected by HIV

The CHIVA conference is for families where one or more child is living with HIV

METRO is delighted to be supporting the first ever CHIVA Families Conference - 'Going Forward'.

Dr Greg Ussher, METRO CEO, said: "As a charity we have provided insight, prevention and support around HIV for over 34 years, with increasing work supporting families affected by HIV - especially since merging with Positive Parenting and Children (PPC) in May 2016.

"We believe in enabling service users to be at the centre of how their services are shaped and delivered. This Families Conference does just that - so naturally we wanted to support the event to be a great success."

This free conference is focused around families where one or more child is living with HIV. Providing a space for professionals and families to collaborate to enhance HIV care for children and young people.

We will be supporting the delivery of the day, which includes interactive workshops for adults, children and young people alongside talks on key issues.

Children aged eight and above are very welcome to take part in the conference. There will be a supervised play area for children between 18 months and eight years old. Those under 18 months can be brought to the event, but will need to stay with you throughout the day.

HIV will be explored openly, so children attending would need to be aware of HIV in the family. Do remember that from around the age of six children can read, and even if staying in the play area, they might see HIV related resources.

METRO is also supporting the conference by providing funds for Family Travel Bursaries. If you'd like to apply for a bursary, please email CHIVA at message@chiva.org.uk.
