Transgender reality grows in visibility -- and bullying.
According to trans* charity Mermaids, though the visibility of transgender issues has increased, inaccurate representations are behind an increase in bullying. An article from the Telegraph looks into the issue, including some critical observations on BBC’s documentary ‘Transgender Kids: Who Knows Best’, which aired controversial stances from doctors.
According to the newspaper, one parent told the Mermaids website last month that: “Friends who watched [the BBC documentary] now feel certain that being transgender is something that can be 'fixed'… They don’t realise how insulting it is to dismiss the fact my son is a transgender boy and make it seem as if he has something wrong with him.”
